One thing with linux is that you'll need to set hard drives to automount in the same place every time plex boots. I also enabled upnp in plex as a fallback option just in case offline access is nuked in a future app update. And because it will be offline a lot, you need to set up plex to run offline (tutorials can be found on Reddit).
One of the great things about dietpi is that once you install it, you have options to install plex/emby/jellyfin etc in the options without any messing around with repositories.īecause I use the pi for travel I also set it up to create a wifi hotspot when it boots up so anybody can connect to it via wifi from their phone/tablet. I set mine up using software called dietpi, which is designed to run headless (although it does have a basic gui) and requires very little computing power. I set up a plex server on a pi4 for travel and made it as lightweight as possible.
